My Craft Room Revealed

The phrase "craft room" is a 4-letter word for many high style bloggers, but I hope you show you all today that a craft room can be stylish and useful as I reveal mine!
If you recall, my craft room space looked like this just a few weeks ago:

Yeah, we can all agree it was a hot mess. I had to make the small space work efficiently for me, so I started by creating a floor plan to best utilize the square footage.

(please don't chew me out for totally disregarding scale in this floor plan!)
Not a huge space, but I'm grateful to have a whole room for my creative endeavors.

One of the main purposes of this room is sewing. My sewing machine deserved a dedicated work surface, so I opted for a tabletop and a set of shapely legs from Ikea in glossy white. Any sewer knows you need a cushy place for your butt, so the upholstered x-bench from my bedroom moved to the sewing table. Hung above the table, I made a linen-covered bulletin board from Homasote where I can pin new ideas and special notes.

For larger sewing projects, I've got ample floor space for cutting and pinning. The window, which I dressed in a happy blue and white gingham, got topped with my reused cornice

I knew I wanted to have open shelving along the wall opposite my sewing table to store my supplies (hidden in these sturdy boxes from The Container Store) and my collection of Martha Stewart Living magazines that date back as far as 1993. Yep, I'm obsessed. They are organized in these lucite magazine holders that I've had for a few years now.

This pair of shelves came from Home Depot in a standard chrome; but I had my way with them, spiffing them up with glossy navy spray paint from Rust-Oleum. The second shelving unit holds, among other things, a collection of old cameras from my dad.

Did I manage to change your perceptions of what a craft room can look like? I hope so. I'm looking forward to using the space for all the ideas currently percolating in my brain!

Like what you see? Come back tomorrow to hear how I finally got my unnecessarily large wrapping paper collection in order on an unused wall in the craft room!
