We Bought a House!

We bought a house, everyone!
Despite rattling on about "starting our house search" for what seems like years, Adam and I made an appointment to visit a house in the nearby suburbs just before Christmas. We walked in and fell in love. Like, head-over-heels, stars-in-the-eyes in love. We put in an offer and had it accepted just before New Year's Eve and had our inspection yesterday. Oh, and we are closing at the end of the month. What a whirlwind!
The exterior shot above hardly does justice to this house. It is enormous and in really great condition for being almost 60 years old. I always thought I wanted a much older home, but this circa-1955 gem is everything I wanted in a home and more. Despite looking like a ranch, this one is much more traditional inside.

We're talking hardwood floors throughout; lots of windows that provide great light; two fireplaces; three and a half bathrooms; a Dutch door and...wait for it...a cedar closet! Oh, and it's in one of the best school districts in Pennsylvania...and only minutes from the city! Here's just a sampling of what made us fall in love:

We love so much about the house already, but we are itching to add our own stamp to it and make it really feel like ours once we move at the end of this month.

2013 has just begun but, boy, do I feel so blessed already. I can't wait to see how the rest of the year will shape up, and I can't wait to chronicle the renovation and decoration process here on Meet Me in Philadelphia!

  8. Wait. AMAZING! Doesn't look like a ranch at all. Looks like just the right balance of character without being old and crumbling. I thought I wanted an old house, too (my first two were 1930s and 1910), but ours was built in 2007. Go figure! So very excited for you guys. Can't wait to follow along as you make it your own.

  16. Congratulations, Ashley!! It is absolutely beautiful and perfect in every way. I'm jealous about your older home - so much character. Can't wait to follow along in your journey as you put your stamp on it. Oh, and about our front door - it is our actual wood front door painted black. We don't have a storm door. But it needs to be replaced because the seals are broken. I would go with the same style again though because I like it a lot.

  25. Congrats! What County? I'm in Bucks. We were in Langhorne Manor and had to sell to downsize since I lost my job and became disabled. It was a home similar to yours much smaller though it seems in comparison, 3 Bd, 2 bth, 1 FP, but a 1/4acre of land. Etc.... I wish you much luck and many many memories!! I'm sure your already planning the decor and rennies for each room! One thing at a time and I'm sure you'll leave your mark and be very happy there years to come!! Enjoy!!
