Indigo, Girl

Maybe it's the impending summer season influencing me here, but I am all about indigo lately. The color and its use in textiles has it origins in India and Japan, which make for an exotic, well-traveled addition to any room.
It's believed that indigo dye began in India, where it was originally derived naturally from the indigo plant (now, most indigo dye is synthetic). Since that time, Indigo dye has been employed by a variety of different cultures to make diverse textile patterns, including but not limited to batik, ikat, shibori and block printing. If you ask me, this saturated hue is the perfect complement to white. I especially love seeing mixed-pattern pillows paired together when they all share a common color palette.

Here are just a few products that take advantage of this lovely shade:

Traditional techniques utilizing indigo like shibori, ikat and batik have been popping up all over the place as of late, once again proving that everything old is new.

Are you still in need of more indigo inspiration?

Do you have any indigo pieces in your home? Are you this hue as much as I am?

  1. This is so pretty, and now that I've thought about it, I really don't have any of this color in my house! (Isn't it strange when you realize how limited your palatte actually is?!) Anyways, it's such a calm breath of fresh air - lovely selections.

  7. So, so into indigo! This color and navy have quickly become the accent in my living room, along with green. I'm toying with upholstering an armchair I have in indigo too.
