Do you like this look? I promise to convince you of the awesomeness of a brick floor application with the super chic examples I've gathered.
Brick floors look best when they have some wear and age. Without patina a brick floor can go all "1987 Pizza Hut" pretty fast if you ask me. To fake the "worn" look, did you know you can sand an interior brick floor?
Brick floors in a mudroom:
A great place for a brick floor is a mudroom. Its forgiving color hides a lot of the dirt that comes into the aptly-named space. Brick offers color and pattern and eliminates the need for a separate doormat. Just open the door and sweep away any dirt tracked inside!

Brick floors in a laundry room:
The laundry room is another utility space fitting for a brick floor application. I really like the idea of aged, unsealed brick in a laundry room but I'm afraid neon blue detergent would spill and ruin the look. Does anybody have experience with brick in their laundry room?

Brick floors in a kitchen:
There's a cozy quality to the look of brick floors so they seem like the perfect choice for the heart of the home. I may sound silly but I associate a kitchen with brick floors with warm and fuzzy movies like "Something's Gotta Give," "Stepmom" or "Baby Boom"...you know what I mean?

And just for good measure, here are a few more spaces with brick floors...

So, what's your take on brick floors inside a home? Would you embrace this look?
I have a client who is dying to put brick floors in their sunroom. I love the look in certain rooms but it is big bucks for sure.
ReplyDeleteI was considering brick for my kitchen until i realized how hard it would probably be to clean brick floors...the grout lines would colect too much gunk.
ReplyDeleteNo convincing needed my friend! I love the herringbone versions!
ReplyDeleteCompletely!! I love the earthy texture. I think my favorite would be in a kitchen or in a sun room. I like the outdoorsy feel they bring too!
ReplyDeleteLove the herringbone brick in the mudroom and kitchen- it really does remind me of the warm fuzzy-feeling of susan sarandon's house in stepmom
ReplyDelete@Sarah Jane--Ha! I couldn't agree more! I love that movie (despite all the tears that come with watching it).
ReplyDeleteI love the look. It reminds me of the beautiful spanish homes we have in Ca (like in 'It's Complicated'). I hadnt thought of it in a laundry room - great idea!
ReplyDeleteI recently bought a home with brick floors throughout. Unfortunately, the grout is filthy and I have the 1987 Pizza look going. I've tried everything to clean the grout... And there is so much of it!! I would love to figure out how to get the old glazed look without breaking the bank. Thanks!
