Antoinette Poisson Printed Pillow + Vintage Bamboo Armchairs

Antoinette Poisson printed pillow via Meet Me in Philadelphia
There's been a flurry of activity around these parts since I last posted. I could spend the next week or so recounting all of the activity that's been stealing my attention from this blog, but instead of wasting too much time looking backward I figured I'd choose the most "blogworthy" happenings to share...like this pillow.

Back in early October, Adam and I spent a whirlwind weekend in Brooklyn with two of our dearest friends. Though the real purpose of the trip was to celebrate our friend's thirtieth birthday, I certainly couldn't miss the opportunity to do a little shopping. Adam was a great sport, and hardly seemed bothered when I dragged him into John Derian's trio of stores is in the East Village.

I was on a mission, and one of my objectives was to check out the printed pillows from Antoinette Poisson, a Paris-based design firm specializing in textiles and hand-painted papers based on 19th century French patterns. The company had recently been written up in Architectural Digest, and its offerings are not widely available in the U.S. except for Derian's shop so I had to take advantage of being in the city to look at them up close.

Aren't the prints lovely?

Back to the pillow. I couldn't resist when I spotted it at one of Derian's East Second Street shops--the only trouble was selecting only one pattern. I hardly settled, though, as the pattern I picked suits the existing colors of our den nicely, don't you think?

In other acquisition news, this set of 4 vintage bamboo arm chairs came home with us from an estate sale this weekend. They're sturdy, they're navy and I couldn't bear to leave the sale without them. I just have to find the perfect spot for them...

Win $150 to UncommonGoods! {A Giveaway}

What could be a better way to overcome a mid-week slump than with the chance to win $150 to a fabulous online retailer like UncommonGoods.com? I was thrilled when the team from UncommonGoods reached out to me, because the company features unique designs and handcrafted goods that make perfect gifts for anyone, any home, any occasion.

I'm always reluctant to endorse companies here on my blog unless I completely agree with their mission, their vision and their products. UncommonGoods stands apart in a world of big box stores and ubiquitous inventory--they provide a platform for artists and designers to reach customers who are looking for just the right piece while also supporting non-profit organizations like RAINN, Women for Women and City Harvest. It's shopping with social conscience.

Today, I'm highlighting some of my favorite products from UncommonGoods, but I'd be silly not to draw your attention to a fabulous selection of gifts for women here, a number of unique personalized gifts here and a collection of jewelry that anyone would be happy to wear here.

Here are just a few of my favorites pieces currently available at UncommonGoods:

Like what you see? Want to win a $150 gift card to UncommonGoods? To win:

-Comment below and let me know what you'd spend the $150 gift card on!
-For extra entries, follow me on PinterestTwitter and/or Instagram and comment below confirming you're a follower for up to 3 more chances to win (comment separately for each way you follow)!

Contest ends Sunday, May 18th at 11:59 PM. And I'm sorry, but this giveaway is open to U.S. residents only. A winner will be selected using random.com and will be announced in Monday's post.

Thank you UncommonGoods for this giveaway! Good luck, friends.

This giveaway was sponsored by UncommonGoods, though all opinions are my own.

There's something about a change in season--especially when the days grow from short to long and the temperatures shift from cold to warm--that signals a time to make some change.

After all, we've been buttoned up in our homes for months now and are ready to see an update to our all-too-familiar surroundings, am I right?

Well, the Meet Me in Philadelphia Etsy Shop is stocked with so many new items, just in time for a spring spruce up!

New Vintage & Handmade Items in My Etsy Shop!

new etsy items via Meet Me in Philadelphia

Happy Monday, friends! Is it snowing where you are, too? The snow has been falling for several hours already, leaving the roads hazardous and the temperatures too cold for comfort. That means today is the perfect day to park myself in front of Etsy for a little pre-spring spruce-up shopping.

If you're stuck inside today I encourage you to check out my Etsy shop, which is freshly stocked with goodies to warm up any (late winter) snowy day.

Happy shopping!

Faux Bois Dining Chairs

Meet Me in Philadelphia meetmeinphiladelphia.blogspot.com
Whew...it's already Thursday? I know I've been bad at posting this week but I've been busy resuming my non-vacation life...you know, grocery shopping, cleaning, prepping for trick-or-treaters, etc. One of my (many) errands this week: dropping off donations to one of my favorite thrift stores, which I did yesterday.

While there, I had the find of a lifetime--a complete set of 6 faux bois Louis dining chairs. I know, right? Oh, and they were $35 a piece. Let that sink in for a bit...

Ashley Shops Internet

One of my favorite things to do is shop, though I've definitely tempered my shopping lately thanks to budgets and all..you know, the un-fun but very necessary requirement of adult life. Even though I might not be whipping out my credit card every time I see something I like, I still love window shopping the internet. In the meantime, I'm sure to gather all my finds in my Ashley Goes Shopping board on Pinterest.

These six pieces are calling my name and I'd be super-grateful if anyone wanted to splurge and buy one (or all of these) for me. Bon shopping!

What have you found lately while browsing the internet? Help a recovering shopaholic out!

Made in Maine

Meet Me in Philadelphia meetmeinphiladelphia.blogspot.com
(via Meet Me in Philadelphia)
I'm heading home to Philadelphia from New England today. Before I leave the topic of Maine all together though, I wanted to highlight a few of the great products that have the distinct feel of the Pine Tree State and can make any getaway to the state last a little longer.

-Count the days as they pass with this calendar of classic Down East magazine covers.
-Cuddle close under a cozy heirloom-quality Swans Island wool throw.
-Foster a love for Maine with Robert McCloskey's Blueberries for Sal or One Morning in Maine.

Lobsters, scallops, clams or other seafood are optional (though heartily encouraged).

Happy weekend, friends! Glad to be back home!

Meet Me in Philadelphia: The Etsy Shop!

Meet Me in Philadelphia meetmeinphiladelphia.blogspot.com
Summer has mostly gotten away from me but I promise it's not all for naught. In fact, I've been pretty productive! First and foremost example of productivity: I've opened my own Etsy shop!  If you've read this blog for any length of time, you know I love hunting and gathering unique vintage and antique finds to add a special touch to my home. But I can't keep everything...so, enter the Meet Me in Philadelphia shop.

Make Room for Red, White and Blue

Meet Me in Philadelphia meetmeinphiladelphia.blogspot.com
(red lantern / white lantern / blue lantern from JC Penney)

The fourth of July is right around the corner and, as a girl originally from New England now residing outside Philadelphia, the all-American color combination of red, white and blue are really speaking to me. I've rounded up some of my favorite decor that would add a little spirit to any setting.

Totally Tortoise

Meet Me in Philadelphia meetmeinphiladelphia.blogspot.com
(Mark Sikes's tortoise shell coffee table via Habitually Chic)

There are always a few design elements or finishes that, despite a resurgence every few years, never actually go out of style. They remain chic regardless of the way they are used and defy the word "trend". Today's post is dedicated to one such design element: tortoise shell. Are you a fan?

Shopping for Art at Student Sales/Exhibitions

Meet Me in Philadelphia meetmeinphiladelphia.blogspot.com
Have any of you seen the documentary Herb and Dorothy, readers? This film tells the fascinating story of a couple (Herb and Dorothy Vogel) with modest means as a postal worker and a librarian who amass a world-class collection of modern art. My take-away from that documentary was this: anyone, with any salary, can become an art collector if the passion and interest is there.

Today, I thought it would be fun to talk about one strategy for purchasing unique and still-affordable art: by shopping at art school student exhibitions and sales.

New Handwoven Rugs from Gypsya

Meet Me in Philadelphia meetmeinphiladelphia.blogspot.com
A good rug, like a good man, is hard to find. And I should know because I've been on the hunt for a rug for the den and a rug for the living room (both to be layered on woven natural fiber rugs) for what seems like months. While on the hunt on Etsy, I discovered that Gypsya--a shop I've written about here before--is selling a collection of beautiful handwoven rugs.

Something tells me you'll like them as much as I do...

Steal vs. Splurge: You Better Shop Around

Meet Me in Philadelphia meetmeinphiladelphia.blogspot.com
It's been a while since I posted in my "You Better Shop Around" series, but I've noticed too many look-alike  products while shopping online not to add another entry. And since these steals are so good, I have the feeling I might have to order a few for myself.

Best Places in Philly to Shop for the Home (Part II)

(map of Philadelphia by Grace Lee for Anthology Mag)
Today in Part II of my round-up of the best places in Philadelphia for home décor, I’ll share my recommendations for estate sales, antique shops and fabric stores. I hope it helps readers now and in the future to find good, reasonably-priced pieces for their home, which isn't always easy.

Some may question why I’m sharing resources—as if they were family secrets or bank account PINs—but I firmly believe that sharing is caring. These two posts are sort of like the blogging version of ‘take a penny, leave a penny’. Here are my pennies. Feel free to contribute your own in the comments below and we'll all be a little wealthier for it.

While I focused on secondhand/antique goods primarily in this 2-part series, there are a million and one additional home décor stores and shops in the Greater Philadelphia. I encourage anyone reading to explore the area and support local businesses, small and large!
