A Late Summer Wedding

Greetings from Denmark, friends! (this is Ashley, in case you've forgotten me already)
My husband and I have a few more days in Copenhagen but are enjoying it tremendously.
I hope you have enjoyed the visiting roster of guest bloggers and their unique perspectives.

Many posted about the transition from summer to autumn, which happens to be my favorite season. But, before I can fully immerse myself in fall, I wanted to share a joyous summer wedding that took place two weeks ago.
In a quiet corner of Connecticut, our friends Eric and Beth married on a peaceful farm overlooking the hills. The Tyrone Farm was the setting and it provided the scenic backdrop for such a lovely event. In a few short weeks, the greenery in these shots will turn their autumnal hues; but on August 25, the natural setting welcomed a new couple into matrimony.

Eric and Beth are everything you hope for in friends: interesting, loving and deeply intelligent.
My husband and Eric have been friends for a very long time, and each has now served as best man for the other's wedding. That is a special thing for two friends to share.
The flowers were all in full bloom for the affair.
All smiles.
Didn't my husband look dapper in his suit?

My fellow Hannans: my sister-in-law Allison, myself, Adam, and my second sister-in-law Jenna.

It is an event like this (and friends like these) that make me appreciate the beauty of summer.
I hope you enjoyed a peak into this truly happy occasion that made this summer all the better.

The Day We Were Married

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, but if I must add one more it might be 'perfect'.

To steal a line from one of my favorite books,"Reader, I married him."

I am over the moon that my best friend, my greatest ally, my perfect counterpoint is now my husband.

In my honeymooning absence (which starts today), you will be treated to a host of guest posts from a collection of talented bloggers starting tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing all of their brilliant points of view, and sharing with you wedding and honeymoon details when I return!

TGIF, 5/20/11 Edition

(via Once Wed)

I can't believe today is finally here! In just a few short hours, Adam and I will be at our rehearsal and enjoying the last few moments of our engagement.

This weekend may be the most special weekend I've chronicled yet here on this blog.

It has been such a pleasure sharing this process with such an abundantly-supportive group of bloggers. From the bottom of my heart, I have been sincerely touched by your thoughtful emails and comments during the past  week.

I am beyond excited to share more of my wedding day with you all in the coming weeks and, until then, thank you for your loving and kind words during this special time for us.

TGIF, 5/13/11 Edition

(via Vogue.com)

Happy Friday...er, Saturday, friends!
Blogger's breakdown on Thursday and Friday really threw me for a loop, so now I wanted to share with you what-would-have-been my post for yesterday.

********
  • Tonight my parents journey down from Connecticut to help with last-minute preparation and details for our wedding, which is just one short week away!
  • I also wanted to take a minute a give a shout-out to my soon-to-be-sister-in-law Jenna, who is off enjoying her senior prom tonight. She's a gorgeous and smart girl and I'm sure she will look fantastic in her spangly flapper-esque prom dress
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Honeymoon in Greece

I can't believe it's been nearly a week since I've posted. I feel like such a negligent blogger.  My little break is somewhat justified because I'm still totally, completely, utterly overwhelmed by this little garden-themed wedding of mine.

But enough of all that. How about some honeymoon details?
As you smarty-pants readers probably already guessed, Adam and I heading to Greece for our honeymoon just after our wedding (countdown to wedding: 12 days)!

Sure, I could spend time planning a wonderful two-week getaway with the help of travel guru Rick Steves, or instead I could rely on my copy of M. Sasek's This is Greece.

Flipping through Sasek's book got me very excited for our trip. Since I can't sneak you all into my suitcase, check out some of the places we'll be seeing in just a few short weeks.
We're starting off in Athens, and then spending the bulk of our time traveling around the Greek isles!
How Jackie O., right?
Naturally, one of our earliest stops will be to the Parthenon.
I cannot wait to sail around the Greek islands, especially Mykonos and Santorini and soak up the sights and sounds of the Mediterranean.
As this illustration suggests, the wonders of the ancient Greek civilization will prove to be awe-inspiring for us I'm sure.
Lots and lots of pictures will be taken and shared. Have you traveled to Greece? If so, is there anything that we simply "can't miss"?!

Speaking of, I've missed you all.
Thank you for your sweet emails.
I'll be back in full-effect post-wedding.

All The Pretty Peonies

One year ago yesterday, I became engaged and began mentally collecting inspiration for my wedding (which, by the way, is only 19 days away!).

Certain decisions were very easy to make. Number 1: my flowers. I knew very quickly that I'd carry a lush bouquet of full, fragrant peonies. I've loved them since I was a child. I always enjoyed watching the ants crawl curiously over each peony bud in my mom's garden, where they'd serve to open each bloom as nature intended.

This bouquet from Martha Stewart provided a lot of inspiration as my florist and I developed the "floral story" for my wedding.

Still need more peonies this morning? Check this gorgeous flower out:

I cannot wait until my wedding day to be surrounded by such beautiful flowers.
What flowers did you choose to be front-and-center on your "big day"?
