My Interior Resolutions

Happy 2011 everyone!

I don't know about you all, but I'm not really one for making New Year's resolutions. Either I enter a year with things I consciously want to achieve or I don't, simple as that. Writing this blog and reflecting on my life, style, and projects is helping to make me more deliberate in a lot of ways, so I think I'll give this resolution thing a go...

That said, here are just a few resolutions I'd like to accomplish:

Purchase a sewing machine and use it!
I have aspirations to practice the art of sewing in 2011, instead of relying on my mother's well-developed sewing skills (Though I'm always grateful for your help, Mom!).

To the sewing experts out there, what brand and model do you recommend for a novice like me?

Donate one unused item for every new item that enters my apartment.

The new year represents a time to instill new habits. I'd like to be the owner of less "stuff" this year, specifically if that "stuff" hasn't been used during the previous twelve months. In order to do this, I'm regulating myself to donate one item for every new item that comes into my home.

This will be especially challenging because I'm getting married in May and weddings bless couples with a host of new items. I'm going to try extra hard with this resolution.

Save for something really special.

What you ask? I've been eying this Michele Varian glass cluster lamp ($280) for awhile now:

Perhaps it will find its way to my home during the coming year.

What are your interior resolutions for 2011?

  1. Yay, we can learn how to work sewing machines together this year! I'm still scared of mine; it's in a box in the basement. But I WILL overcome my fear!

  2. Perhaps we can keep each other motivated here...though you are farther ahead than me. You actually OWN a sewing machine!

  3. Just posted my resolutions. I learned how to sew two years ago and I am by no means an expert, but I got a Bernina sewing maching. I've been really happy with it.
