Meet Me in...Scandinavia?

At the end of August, my husband Adam and I are heading on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Norway, Sweden and Denmark for almost two weeks and I couldn't be more excited! Neither of us have been to Scandinavia before, so we wanted to explore a spot on the globe that was completely new and different for us.

We have ourselves a few travel books about the area, but there are certainly some attractions that we know we'll have to see in late summer. Specifically, we'll be staying in Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen and we're looking forward to exploring these cities and taking day trips to nearby spots.

Our accommodations in each country will be a mix of hotels and private apartments, and I'm particularly thrilled to stay in apartment in Copehagen that just screams modern Danish style:
Since my knowledge of the best places to visit in Scandinavia are somewhat limited, I turn to you all:
Have you ever been to Norway, Sweden or Denmark?
If so, what are some must-see places?

I know that there's much more to this area than built-it-yourself decor,
Hans Wegner chairs,
or meatballs.
so I really would be grateful for your recommendations and advice!

  4. Oh, how cool! I've never been to Scandinavia so I have no tips, but I can't wait for you to share your journey so I can live vicariously through you! My grandfather's parents came to the US from Finland, so I've always wanted to go there too.

  5. wow, what an awesome trip that is going to be!! That apartment you are staing in is going to be so fun, what a great way to get to know the city better than act like locals :)

  6. How exciting. You will love Copenhagen. I lived there for a year... two of my favourite bars/cafes were Cafe Somersko (means summer shoe) and Krasnapolski... the main shopping street is great too and the restaurants and bars at Nyhavn are beautiful.

I just came across this article in the UK's Guardian that might be helpful:

  7. From one Philly girl obsessed with Sweden: You're going to have such a good time! Enjoy every second of it and take lots and lots of pictures (and eat lots and lots of meatballs). So very jealous, indeed. :)
