Our Guest Bedroom {A Long-Overdue Reveal}

Hello, friends! How have you been? The past few weeks have felt like a blur as I settle into my new job during the weekdays and work on our living room during the weekends. That said, I finally have an exciting reveal worth sharing here on the blog: our guest bedroom!

I made it my mission--just as the year started--to rework the space so it more accurately reflects my evolving style.

In January, on one of those impossibly snowy days, I covered the walls of the room in a new coat of paint: Benjamin Moore's "Palladian Blue". The color reminds me of sea glass, the perfect soothing color for a guest bedroom, and the inspiration for it came from the Parlor Textiles print on the throw pillow and chair seat.

Elsewhere in the room, elements of gold, white and a touch of oxblood combine for a palette I really love.

The bed, an antique found for a mere $60 on Craigslist, replaced a utilitarian metal frame. Its frame grounds the light walls and even lighter trim. While picking up the bed, the seller also had a beautiful bamboo etagere for sale and, when I heard the price, I couldn't resist adding it to our haul. It was $10!

The bedside tables, which were purchased as an unfinished pair from Ebay, took forever to settle on. I searched high and low for an option that complemented, rather than competed, with the other furnishings. I painted the tables with a coat of BM's "White Dove" (the same color we're using in our living room) and a finish coat of liming wax.

Atop the tables sit a pair of turned lamps that I discovered in a Greenwich, CT consignment store for $40 for the pair.

One of the primary reasons I didn't share this space before now: the seagrass rug from Ballard was on backorder for nearly 2 months. I'm glad we waited because I absolutely love it.

The series of vintage mushroom prints that hang over the bed may look familiar--they've hung in our guest bedroom since our previous apartment.

Here's the bamboo etagere, which sits between the room's two windows. I love its mottled finish.

Opposite the bed sits the ticking stripe skirted table that Mom and I worked on a few years ago. It still looks fresh and I don't see myself discarding it anytime soon. On top, the thrifted oxblood lamp works well against the blue-green walls.

This coming weekend, my parents will be visiting and will be the first guests in our officially-complete guest bedroom. I'm glad to have a dedicated space for our special visitors that I'm also proud to show off.

  1. This is just lovely! I love how you dressed the bed. So sophisticated and inviting. Vintage prints, seagrass, and ticking stripe is pretty much my M.O. in many rooms of my house. No surpise I'm in love with the combo here! Paired with such a fresh wall color, it's a really stunning result. So glad you're back!

    1. It sounds like we are kindred spirits then! I'm really pleased that the affordable bedding options look (and feel, honestly) so good. I've been really happy with the Target and JCP pieces I bought for the room.

  6. Looks great. I love the wall color. I actually tried painting one of my rooms that color but it gets low light so doesn't look nearly as nice as your room. I'm sure your guests will be thrilled with their accommodations.

    1. Thank you so much! I think this is clever photography, but the light in this bedroom is actually pretty limited anytime after early morning. The color, however, feels cozy and enveloping.

  8. Love this color combo Ashley! Blueish-greenish with gold/camel! Your room is so wonderful! I love all your touches - they are so thought through and the room is so serene. I am using a similar color scheme to work with my bisque colored kitchen cabinets and counter-tops. I plan to paint the walls BM Gray Owl.

    1. For $10, there was NO way I was leaving that etagere behind! :)

  13. I'd love to be a guest in your house. That bed looks so inviting and comfortable! Love that you decided to pick unpainted furniture for the side tables and paint them yourself. I think that was a great choice. I also like how you've mixed the Palladian blue with the natural tones in the rug, shades, and lampshades. It looks great with the darker wood too. Still loving that trio of mirrors too!

  14. You do such a beautiful job with your spaces and are so thoughtful in planning and finding the right things, rather then just what is available 'now'. Your colors and finishes make me so damn happy. I love your style sister. Truly. xo

  15. $10.00 for the etagere?? I've been stalking CL for a few things. I hope I get lucky one of these days. This is so pretty Ashley and your parents will have a great stay in this refreshed room that you've created. I haven't used Palladian Blue at all but have always admired it. We had Wythe Blue in the kitchen at our old house and I loved it so much. I really love the touch of oxblood - such a great combo. Job well done.
